It is all dependent on the customer's preference. We recommend customers lay it all out and visually judge the spacing in the area they are lighting up prior to installation to come up with this answer.
Our in-house designers recommend that if the staircase is standard at 4 feet in width, one light in the center on every step is appealing, otherwise, if the staircase is wider than 4 feet in width, two lights on every step, 12 inches to 16 inches from the sides is suggested.
